What a happy look at Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) this is! Tascha, the artist, based this and similar fanciful portraits on Kahlo's 1938 work Itzcuintli Dog With Me. "I love Frida because she was a strong woman who was expressing herself through her art," Tascha writes, and adds that she also shares Frida's delight in the unconditional love of animals.
Tascha has done many interpretations of Frida's life with pets, all showing the innocence, joyousness and fantasy with which she creates her imagery. You will find many of these at her blog, Time with Tascha, which is a cheering place to start a morning. (I did a search on her blog for "Frida" here, so you can see a few right away.) I know that when I ran across this work and spotted the other Frida-themed ones, I felt a tug in my heart that in this Tascha universe, Frida had found more purely happy moments than she got in her time on earth.
My great thanks to the artist for agreeing to be featured!
