kitten ride

thanks wikipaintings.org. public domain
That is one of the things I regret about long sweeping dresses being out of fashion:  no kitten rides.  This is a joyful work of around 1885 by the Belgian Neo-Impressionist Theo van Rysselberghe, Woman in a Green Dress (teal maybe? it doesn't look that green here).  And the kitten makes the piece, of course.  Van Ryssleberghe's portraits are mostly introspective and intense, though beautiful, so I wonder if that's who this woman was through and through - a creature of delight and smiles.

So much more elegant than the bathmat I use!
