the dog tago

courtesy Museo Archeologico di Bologna (creative commons license)
Tago was a German Weimaraner dog who lived with the Marquis Tommaso de Buoi in late 18th-c Bologna.  His terracotta statue, above, used to sit upon the spot where poor Tago fell out of the window upon spotting the Marquis returning from a long journey.  It's being cared for indoors now at Bologna's Collezioni Comunali d'Arte.  This soulful memorial was created by the Neoclassic sculptor Luigi Acquisti in 1777.

the statue represents a sad story, but it's a lovely comment on the love humans and dogs have shared over the centuries.
