the animals of wwi - #4 in the series
Somewhere in the mix and slaughter of Gallipoli, there was a soldier named Simpson and his donkey. Together they helped transport wounded soldiers to safety. That much is true, and became the genesis of a much bigger story in which Simpson and his friend became folk heroes of a sort.
