Yes, yes, normally you say the words "parrot sketch" and certain people flinch in expectation of the
famous Monty Python bit. This, however, honestly is a pastel sketch from 1762 which is "attributed to" the Italian Rococo artist Giovanni Battista
Tiepolo.
How maddening and fraught it must be to prove that sort of thing when you have a big name like Tiepolo's riding on it. But meanwhile, this portrait does show the serene yet knowing charm you'll see in Tiepolo's pretty young women. As for the parrot, he's alive and well and has a knowing eye of his own.
I found this a good sassy piece to start a Monday.
I'm intrigued by how the young lady came to have a parrot.
