dachshund plaint, 1920

Found in an issue of the old periodical "Dogdom," here is a comic reminder of a not actually funny idea: that dachshunds were tainted by their German association during the years encompassing the two World Wars.

THE PLAINT OF THE LITTLE LONG DOG
By Bertha W. B. Rainger

I'm just a little dachshunde
Loyal, loving—full of fun.
Why do they make a jest of me—
Why do they call me "Hun"?

My eyes are true—I'm faithful;
I am long—on loyalty.
I wasn't "Made in Germany"—
Why do they "Badger" me?
 -- "Dictated by Wynken, Blynken and Noddy."  Found in Dogdom, vol. 21 no. 1 (March 1920), p. 5.
