a peek at an egyptian cat funeral

thanks wikimedia commons {{PD:US}}
Here's a work from English academic painter John Reinhard Weguelin, dated 1886.  Called "The Obsequies of an Egyptian Cat," it's an interpretation of a cat's funeral in ancient Egypt.  I've never come across an illustration of that before, and I'm sure it's a loose take on what actually would have happened, but I think it's beguiling.  Is that a wrapped fish offering on the blue carpet?
