A Norwegian mascot received a posthumous British medal October 17th in the Scottish port where he made his home.
Bamse ("Little One"), a St. Bernard, saved the lives of two Norwegian sailors in the town of Montrose. He had arrived there in 1942 with his owner, a captain with the Norwegian navy that carried King Haakon VII into exile. When his master's minesweeper went into action, Bamse took up a post in the front guntower, wearing his very own tin helmet.
