puppies divide themselves up by color

Would you look at that. Seven Cairn terrier puppies. Two beds. And two coat colors.
I'd like to thank my friend Jill for okaying my use of this sweet, but philosophically puzzling photo. (She's the proud adoptive mom of one of the wheat-colored babies on the right / NO! As she corrects me below, one of the brindles on the left, head draped over rim of the bed) Whyever did they decide to divvy themselves up by fur color? Jill doesn't know, I tried to find out, and I don't know either. Do you?

Fascinating. Do you know whether they only did it this once?

I think animals have a sense of the aesthetic. Also a sense of humor!

I am not sure if they only did it the once, but I have heard of other puppy litters doing this.

Geez, I just checked in to see what you'd come up with the last couple of days and about to post re: The Pet Museum-- and saw this Scotch Broom litter! I thought it was incredibly weird.

OOPS Correction. I am getting one of the brindle ones on the left-- not one of the wheatens on to right. . .

They know how to maximize the cuteness!

I'm wondering if each color recognized the color of the matching bed color as a camoflague opportunity and thus the organic separation of color?

Looking back, I can further clarify: 1) The breeder, Carol told me that this was NOT the only time they divided; and 2) My puppy was the brindle parked just outside the "dark" bed.

Yay Audz, thinking outside the box...or the bed. I must come give that doggy some love.
