Look at me, this face says.  I'm a smart dog, I'm a good boy.  Jack Russells are a smart, fast breed in need of things to do.  I like to think this one has figured out his name in alphabet blocks.  This most appealing portrait dates from 1891, by the English landscape and animal painter Mariquita Jenny Moberly (1855-1937).
