cheer up spaniel

Look what I found! It's Grumpy Cat's long lost grumpy great grand spaniel!  Well, no, of course not - it's another early Italian naturalist text illustration, from whatever chapter of Dogs.  The inscription reads, best as I can tell, Canis Melitensis alter lenissimis acbreuibus pelis semiglabercolore albo et flano, auribus demissis.
I ran that through Google Translate for Latin to English, and here's what I get: Maltese dog blandest other briefs uncut where semi hairless white and flan, drooping ears.
Blandest, huh?
