Brooklyn Museum/Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Collection. No known restrictions on copyright. |
Sometime around the turn of the 20th century in Brooklyn, New York, a couple of pugs keep a wide-eyed space apart from their much more assured feline counterpart. This gelatin silver glass dry plate negative was taken around 1899-1909 by Daniel Berry Austin, whose avocation was recording the Brooklyn of his day inside and out. In 1941 he donated his collection to the Brooklyn Museum, a perfect action if I ever saw one. Here is the
text announcing the resulting show that same year.
