i'll watch your purse for you

Izumiya Tomotada, a master of netsuke carving in late 18th century Kyoto, created this little ivory buddy to hold shut some lucky fellow's pocket.  This is an example of katabori-netsuke, "sculpture netsuke," because it's tiny 3D sculpture.  (You can read about the other kinds here.  See another Tomotada critter here at the V and A.)
