Henri-Charles Guerard (French, 1846-1897) designed this Art Nouveau-style fan circa 1885-90. Drawn and painted on stiffened silk and embellished with gold leaf, its pattern of sunflowers and white cats is hypnotic in its rhythm and elegance. Thoroughly typical of Art Nouveau decorative arts.
