Thanks to good friend and reader Laura Brown I can share this wonderful link with you.
"Cats and sailors have a special relationship that dates back thousands of years," the article begins. And a picture is worth a thousand words, so it continues by offering many excellent photos of sailors and their pointy-eared fur mascot buddies over the years.
You'll meet the kitty crew of the USS Mississippi; Wockle of the USS Flusser, who means business; Bilgewater of the Coast Guard Academy; and you must not miss the photo of Miss Hap and her new friend, which will make your heart go two sizes too large like the Grinch's. All this and more you'll see here.
**Late breaking edit: And here a ship full of sailors takes care of three stowaways, courtesy of Love Meow.

Well, this works PURRfectly for me...I have Cats, and Hubby was in the Navy!
Most Excellent.
Wonderful pictures at the link. Loved all the little kitty hammocks and obvious joy the cats brought to the servicemen.
Thanks for sharing that link. Cats clearly did a lot to raise morale at sea. I see that "Simon", the only cat to be awarded the Dickin Medal, was mentioned in the comments. My Lady Of The House wrote about him on her Lost and Fond website just the other day too. He was a very brave cat.
