hector and tom watch over

In this 1898 oil on panel, the German animal painter Caspar von Reth shows "Hector und Tom," not sure which is which, but both most intent on the action unseen at right.  I think it's interesting that the dog who's most active is the one way in the back, which makes both dogs equally compelling to the viewer.
