a stray dog brings fame and fortune

Article found in the Strand Magazine (vol. 34 no. 203, Nov. 1907), p.599.
Brigadier, the dog memorialized here, is mentioned as winning the Waterloo Cup, upon which his guardian Mr. Foulkes bought what became the Waterloo Hotel.  That hotel is no longer, but a part of town is now known as Brigadier Close in this dog's honor.  Find it on a Google Guided Tour of Withington!
