judging the white cat

image copyright and by kindest permission of the artist
"Judging the White Cat" by Ursula Vernon is an entire tale in eleven words and one turned back.  She knew the mice were judging her but she didn't care.  Yet maybe she does, a bit, otherwise why the red pressing in on her from all sides like myriad snotty rodent evil eyes?
Ursula's work is crisp (in more ways than one), masterfully colored, versatile, smart and a particular bold flavor of happy.  You can get an immediate glimpse of that at her DeviantART page, but where you really need to head - and I guarantee you cannot click there fast enough - is her website, Red Wombat Studio.  You'll see everything she can do there, from the mighty palm-sized warrior of Afternoon Shadows to the more lightly executed, cuddly yet heavily armed Battle Hamsters of the North (I have recently gotten into the Vikings series).  But then there's Madonna with Parsnip and Goldfinches.  I've very rarely run across an artist with this level of sheer inventiveness and hands-on talent.
